Managing the New Workforce 3 September 2012, Introduction Today's employers confront a more diverse workforce then ever before with employees coming from many backgrounds, ages and a mix of genders. With more then four generations now in the workforce, the differences between generations in the workplace have never been greater resulting in a growing number of older executives being forced to reassess their management and communication styles. Added to this we are witnessing a greater span of ages in the workplace as people continue to work past traditional retirement age; resulting in generations mixing at all levels. In the past the workplace resembled 'acceptable' age roles older people in senior positions, middle aged in middle management and younger people on the factory floor, the sales team or the front desk. Now we have graduates managing people older than them, and senior managers managing across a number of generations and people from all backgrounds. This workshop takes generational management programs and diversity workshops to the next level - subjects explored in the program include understanding (and managing) diverse values between different age groups, identify value conflicts (and how to manage such battles in the workplace), and understanding the power of diversity.
