Essential Counselling Skills Workshop 10 July 2012, Introduction One of the primary functions of those who have staff reporting to them is to ensure that their staff are performing at the levels required of them and to help staff perform at even higher levels. One of the most basic and fundamental needs of staff in helping them perform at these levels is the support they perceive they are receiving from their leaders. This support can be achieved through the process of counseling. Through the counseling process, the employee not only gets the support they need, but also gains the confidence to perform at higher levels because the counseling process empowers the employee. This course is designed to help leaders give this support without taking away the responsibility of the staff for their own performance. In addition, this course will look at elements of coaching within the counseling process so that the counseling process is brought to a practicable level with tangible results. Also, this course will look at organizational strategies that the company can engage in, that can help reduce the probability of staff performance deterioration happening in the first place.
